Cooperation activities continue between the Spanish Guardia Civil, FIIAPP and Senegalese Public Institutions to improve the protection of public spaces

The Spanish representation of the project had the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Chief of the Senegalese National Gendarmerie, the director of CICO and the project's Point of Contact (PoC) for the Senegalese National Police, amongst other key stakeholders.

From 12 to 15 April 2021, the CT Public Spaces project team carried out its third mission to Dakar with the aim of coordinating, together with the 3 partner institutions of the project in Senegal, the implementation of the training activities to be carried out both there and in Spain.
The Spanish representation of the project, formed by the management team, coordination teams and a key expert from the Guardia Civil and FIIAPP, had the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Chief of the Senegalese National Gendarmerie, the director of CICO (the Inter-Ministerial Coordination Panel for Counter-Terrorism Operations in Senegal), and the project's Point of Contact (PoC) for the Senegalese National Police. These meetings served to define the next activities, establish the places where the training will take place and review the students’ profile, stressing the importance of women’s participation in the project's initiatives. Thus, agreements have been reached for the development of 4 training courses in Logroño, in the months of May and June, in the areas of command and control, tactical patrol, risk analysis, drones and counter-drones. In Dakar, work will focus on capacity building for precision marksmen, intervention dog handlers and explosives detection dog handlers.

In addition, a meeting was held with the European Union Delegation (EUD) to Senegal, in which the progress of the project and the activities planned for the coming months were reported. Finally, the CT Public Spaces project team, which was always accompanied by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Spanish Embassy, visited the Ambassador to discuss the progress of the project and the results of the mission.
The CT Public Spaces project (funded by the European Union, managed by the FPI, implemented by the Spanish Guardia Civil and coordinated by FIIAPP), aims to prevent and reduce terrorist attacks and their effects in public spaces. Specifically, the initiative will support three African countries in which local capacities for the protection of such spaces and infrastructures will be strengthened, also improving public-private cooperation in this sector.
